Motorcycle Insurance

Riding a motorcycle in Oregon requires a valid driver's license and a motorcycle endorsement. As a motorcycle owner, you will be required to have a minimum amount of insurance coverage. You will also need to follow other safety rules that don't apply to cars or trucks.

The minimum requirements of coverage are the same for cars and motorcycles, with the exception that personal injury protection (PIP) is required for motorcycle owners:

  1. $25,000 in coverage for injuries to a single person
  2. $50,000 in total coverage for injuries to all victims
  3. $20,000 in property damage courage
  4. An additional $15,000 is required in PIP

Motorcycle insurance is typically 10 to 15 percent higher in cost than automobile insurance because they are less safe and have few safety features. Insurance companies are forced to price motorcycle insurance higher due to the fact that more than 50 percent of accidents involving motorcycles also include a fatality and serious damage.
